ETV Electronics Technician, Submarine, Navigation
ETV stands for Electronics Technician, Submarine, Navigation. ETVs are responsible for maintaining all electronic equipment used in navigating and piloting submarines. They serve on board multiple classes of submarines and specialize in navigation systems.
ETVs operate and perform maintenance on electronic equipment used for: Detection, tracking, recognition, and identification of maritime vessels and navigational aids Interior Communications (IC) Radio Detection and Ranging (RADAR) systems Alarms, warnings, and indicators
ETVs also assist the Officer of the Deck and the Navigator in all aspects of surfaced and submerged navigation. Ashore, they instruct basic electronics, electronics maintenance, equipment operation, and navigation practices.
Enlistees are taught the fundamentals of this rating through on-the-job training or formal Navy schooling.
