FC Fire Controlman

In the US Navy, a Fire Controlman (FC) is a technician responsible for maintaining the control systems used to aim and fire weapons on ships.

FCs are responsible for: Operating and maintaining combat and weapons direction systems Operating and maintaining surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missile systems Operating and maintaining gun fire control systems Performing maintenance and repairs on fire control related digital computer equipment, control subsystems, and main systems Providing system employment recommendations Testing, troubleshooting, and repairing RADARs, computers, networks, and data display systems

FCs are required to ensure the accuracy of guided missile, surface, and anti-aircraft fire control systems. They use complex computers, electronics, and electrical and hydraulic equipment.

FCs are required to complete some training and education, including: Recruit Training FC “A” School at Naval Station Great Lakes, IL E-Learning

FCs range in rank from Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4) to Petty Officer 1st Class (E-6).
