MU Musician

MU is an occupational rating for musicians in the United States Navy. Navy musicians perform, rehearse, conduct, and arrange music.

They also: Plan and provide performance production enhancement and support Manage and support Navy bands, performing units, and production teams Provide live music for ceremonial, public affairs, and entertainment missions Compose, arrange, and transcribe music for all types of ensembles Provide military musical support

Navy musicians possess musical skills in varying styles, including: Martial, Classical, Jazz.

Navy musicians perform for: Americans at home Foreign audiences Sailors on deployment Navy personnel and their families The general public International audiences Government officials

Navy musicians are rarely deployed to active combat, but they may be deployed to conflict zones on some occasions. All Navy musicians are required to complete basic combat training.
