TM Torpedoman's Mate
Torpedoman’s Mate (TM) is a U.S. Navy rating that was re-established in 2019.
TMs perform maintenance on: Underwater ordnance Small arms Ammunition Launching/firing systems Stowage facilities Submarine anchoring systems
TMs also: Prepare underwater ordnance for launching Conduct post fire and post-run routines Operate and maintain hydraulic systems, hoists, and cylinders Operate and maintain pressurized air systems Operate and maintain submarine weapons and weapons delivery systems
TMs serve aboard submarines and travel underway with them while on sea duty. They also rotate to shore duty, where they’re at a land-based command.
TMs receive extensive training in operating and maintaining submarine weapons systems.
They also: Perform organizational and intermediate level maintenance Perform integrity checks on tubes Grease seawater systems
The TM rating was discontinued in 2007 and merged into the gunner’s mate rating. It was re-established on September 30, 2019.
