AWO Naval Aircrewman Operator

Naval Aircrewmen Operator (AWO) are members of a tactical crew on board maritime patrol aircraft. They produce intelligence products for aircrews to support operations and tactical missions worldwide.

AWOs detect, analyze, classify, and track surface and subsurface contacts. They operate advanced sonar systems using sonobouys, radar, and Electronic Support Measures (ESM).

AWOs operate advanced airborne tactical systems on board Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA). They use Mission Acoustic Subsystem (MAS), Radio Detection and Ranging (RADAR), Electronic Support Measures (ESM), and Identification Friend or Foe/Selective Identification Feature (IFF/).

The salary range for a Naval Aircrewman job is from $37,112 to $53,569 per year in the United States.

To become a Navy aircrew, candidates must: Have normal hearing and color perception Be in excellent physical condition Be motivated toward physical and mental challenges Pass a class II swim test, an aviation flight physical, and the Navy Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA)
