CWT Cyber Warfare Technician
A Cyber Warfare Technician (CWT) in the U.S. Navy is an expert in communication network defense and forensics.
CWTs are responsible for: Detecting, protecting, reacting, and responding to threats against Navy networks Defending against external and internal threats through in-depth technical and non-technical methods Monitoring, identifying, collecting, and analyzing information Providing computer network risk mitigation and network vulnerability assessments Incident response/reconstruction
The Navy created the CWT rating to meet the requirements of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA, signed on December 23, 2022, directed the Navy to establish a cyber warfare rating for enlisted personnel separate from the cryptologic technician enlisted rating.
About 2,350 Sailors serve in the CWT rating. They receive advanced training in cyberspace operations and the use of state-of-the-art technology. The Navy is trying to frontload training of CWTs so that they are “fully trained before they arrive at command”
