IS Intelligence Specialist
The Navy Intelligence Specialist (IS) rating is an enlisted rating that assists in the planning, collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence. Intelligence Specialists analyze military intelligence data to communicate important information for planning military operations.
They also: Prepare and present intelligence products Provide input to and receive data from organic and non-organic sources Assemble and analyze multi-source operational intelligence of surface, sub-surface, and air weapons Prepare materials that describe the features of strategic and tactical areas all over the world
Intelligence Specialists help develop a picture of the battlefield and do predictive analysis based on that picture and historic data.
To become an Intelligence Specialist, you must: Complete the initial 7–9 week Recruit Training (known as Boot Camp) Report to Dam Neck, VA for formal Navy technical training at “A” School for approximately 13 weeks Complete advanced training at “C” School for 5–13 weeks Have vision correctable to 20/20 and normal color perception Have good speaking, writing, and record-keeping skills Have a good working aptitude of math Be capable of doing highly detail-oriented work
