IT Information Systems Technician

In the United States Navy, an IT specialist is an Information Systems Technician (IT). IT specialists operate and maintain the Navy’s global satellite telecommunications systems, mainframe computers, local and wide area networks, and micro-computer systems. They also provide administrative support for these systems.

IT specialists are enlisted personnel who specialize in communications technology.

They must meet the following requirements: A high-school diploma or equivalent U.S. citizenship Eligibility for a “Top Secret” security clearance

The Radioman rating was established in 1921. In 1997, the Navy Data Processing Technician (DP) rating merged into the Radioman rating. In November 1999, the Radioman rating’s name was changed to Information Systems Technician.
