The U.S. Navy’s Information Warfare Community (IWC) was created in 2009. The IWC is involved in all aspects of naval operations.
Information Warfare Officers (IWOs): Deliver information to decision makers Attack, defend, and exploit networks Capitalize on vulnerabilities in the information domain Plan, implement, and manage multiple networks Enable sensor-to-shooter tactical and operational information exchange Provide timely and relevant situational awareness to the Command
The IWC is made up of six reserve communities: Intelligence Cryptologic Warfare Information Professional Meteorology and Oceanography Maritime Cyber Warfare Officer (MCWO) Space Cadre
The IWC also includes Information Warfare Specialists, who are members of the Navy’s enlisted force. The IW pin recognizes those who have acquired the specific professional skills, knowledge, and military experience that qualify them for service in the Navy’s information warfare activities.
