A Bandmaster Limited Duty Officer (LDO) in the U.S. Navy is an officer technical manager in the field of music. They manage all phases of program management and band operations.
To become a Bandmaster, new musicians must: Serve at least eight years Be eligible for promotion to Chief Petty Officer
LDOs are only assigned to billets that are in their designator or MOS and that are designated as LDO billets. They cannot be assigned to billets designated for U.S. Navy unrestricted line officers or their U.S. Marine Corps counterparts.
The age limit for LDOs is 14 years. The age limit for CWO2 is 20 years, and the age limit for CWO3 is 22 years.
