649X Security Specialty LDO
In the United States Navy, Security Limited Duty Officers (LDOs) are technical leaders and managers in Force Protection. They work in areas such as: Antiterrorism, Physical security, Law enforcement, Corrections operations.
LDOs are experts and leaders in the Navy enlisted rating or Marine Corps enlisted MOS from which they came. They are considered more the officer and less the technician as compared to the chief warrant officer (CWO).
The security occupational designators for security officers are 649X and 749X. An MA who has achieved the rank of E-6 may be eligible to apply for commissioning as a LDO. This allows an enlisted MA to become a Security Specialist in the officer ranks.
Responsibilities of a Security Specialist include: Providing security and physical protection for service members Training fellow Sailors in security and shore patrol duties Serving as a security advisor for your squadron Assisting in crowd control and riot prevention Operating military prisons (brigs) aboard ships and on shore
