655X Legal Officer LDO (Not a Lawyer)
In the United States Navy, a Legal Officer LDO (Not a Lawyer) is a Limited Duty Officer (LDO) with the designator 655X. LDOs are a small group of officers who retain their specialties from when they were enlisted men or Warrant Officers.
Legal Officers administer command legal services in military law. They provide administrative and technical assistance in: Courts martial, Investigations, Administrative boards, Personal affairs.
The LDO community was established in 1947. LDOs can request to be redesignated as unrestricted officers.
