Surface Engineering

The Surface Engineering Community in the US Navy has nine ratings: Electrician’s Mate (EM) Engineman (EN) Damage Controlman (DC) Gas Turbine Systems Technician (GS) Electrical (GSE) Gas Turbine Systems Technician, Mechanical (GSM) Hull Maintenance Technician (HT) Machinery The Surface Engineering Community has 23,574 enlisted Navy personnel. The Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes (SWESC GL) has nearly 1,500 students at any one time. The staff at SWESC GL includes: 10 officers Over 350 enlisted personnel 40 Department of the Navy civilians Quartermasters Boatswain Mates Sailors from all surface engineering rates The ratings range in pay grades from E5 to E9.
