What BAE Systems looks for

BAE Systems' veteran recruitment program manager publishes a detailed military résumé guide. Its advice: tailor every résumé for applicant tracking systems using keywords from the posting, translate titles ("Platoon Sergeant" becomes "Team Operations Manager"), and quantify people, budgets and performance. It says to put key skills and certifications at the top, keep to one page (two at most) in black ink at 10 points or larger, and mention your clearance level in the top third. Include your availability date too. Most BAE Systems, Inc. roles require U.S. citizenship or U.S.-person status, and AI tools are not permitted during interviews.

Bullet formula: BAE's own examples: [led/managed + number of people, dollars or assets] + [what you delivered] + [performance metric]. E.g. "Managed a team of 27 personnel…", "Oversaw a $2.2 million annual budget…", "Improved operational efficiency by 18% over 12 months."

Do

• Tailor each résumé to the posting and use its keywords for applicant tracking systems. Save as PDF or Word.
• Put key skills and certifications at the top, then list experience in reverse-chronological order to show progression and total years.
• State your clearance level in the top third of the page. Know the date it was granted and your reinvestigation date.
• Include your availability date, a professional email address, and just city and state for your address.
• Quantify: team size, budget, audit scores, efficiency gains. Your evaluations are a good place to find numbers.
• Keep to one page if you can (two at most), 10-point type or larger, black ink, with bold headings to guide the eye.

Avoid

• Don't use military terms like MOS, NCOIC or METT-TC. Write "Analyzed operational needs and adjusted plans" instead.
• Don't copy your military title verbatim. Use a civilian equivalent such as "Team Lead/Supervisor."
• Don't include hobbies, unrelated awards, or references (give references only when asked).
• Don't use AI tools during interviews. BAE Systems does not permit them.
