What EY looks for

EY's résumé tips note that a recruiter spends about 30 seconds on a résumé, so every word has to count. EY suggests about one page in a format that's easy to read and logical, with simple, direct, action-oriented statements. It also asks for a specific objective, keywords that match the role, and acronyms spelled out the first time. EY reviews applications on academic background, skills and work experience, and its interview tips ask you to be ready to discuss your key experiences, accomplishments and lessons learned clearly.

Bullet formula: [Action verb] + [a simple, direct statement of what you did] + [the result]. Spell out each acronym the first time, e.g. "U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)".

Do

  • Aim for about one page. EY says there's no universal rule, but concise, impactful writing counts in your favor.
  • Open with a specific objective saying who you are and what you want to do at EY.
  • Write simple, direct statements with action verbs. EY prefers them to long, complicated ones.
  • Spell out each term the first time, then use its acronym. This matters most for military units and systems.
  • Use keywords that reflect your skills and the role, industry or field, and put your most relevant experience first.
  • Treat the résumé as a living document and have someone you trust or a professional review it.

Avoid

  • Don't let acronyms go unexplained.
  • Don't write long, complicated sentences.
  • Don't submit it with typos, grammar slips or inconsistent formatting. EY says to check everything, including typography.
