  • Asked to stand up a night-shift inspection flow for 24 aircraft, built task-sequencing checklists and a shift hand-off board. On-time inspection completion rose from 82% to 97%.
  • Ran operational checks, fault isolation and line-replaceable-unit swaps on mission systems. Passed 41 consecutive quality-assurance evaluations with zero quality escapes.
  • Trained and certified 16 technicians on electrostatic-discharge control and technical-order compliance. The unit passed its annual inspection with no avionics findings.

What Lockheed Martin looks for

Lockheed Martin recruiters first check whether you meet a requisition's basic qualifications, and only then weigh its desired skills. A résumé that mirrors the posting beats a general one. Most hiring managers interview with the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). For cleared roles, Lockheed verifies your clearance with DCSA after the background check, which takes about three months on average. State your clearance level and status plainly. Veterans make up about 20% of the workforce, and its Military Relations Managers, all veterans themselves, help translate service records into civilian résumés.

Bullet formula: Short STAR: [situation or task in a few words] + [the action you took] + [a measurable result]. Lockheed's interviewers use STAR, so each bullet should also work as the start of an interview answer.

Do

  • Tailor the résumé to each requisition. Repeat its basic qualifications in its own words first, then show the desired skills that set you apart.
  • Put your clearance level and status (e.g. "Active Secret") at the top. Cleared roles must have the clearance verified before you start.
  • Write bullets you can expand into STAR answers: what was happening, what you were asked to do, what you did, and how it turned out.
  • Name the systems and aircraft you supported, but only at an unclassified level. Lockheed says veterans who know its products bring useful insight.
  • Ask someone you know at Lockheed Martin to submit a referral. The hiring-process page recommends it.
  • Work with a Military Relations Manager or the Continuing Your Mission network to turn military titles into civilian ones.

Avoid

  • Don't leave military job codes and unit shorthand untranslated. Lockheed's Military Relations Managers exist because civilian reviewers can't read deployment logs.
  • Don't apply where you miss the basic qualifications. Recruiters screen those before they look at anything else.
  • Don't lean on AI to answer interview questions. Lockheed's interview guide asks candidates to limit AI use and rely on their own expertise.
  • Don't bury your clearance at the bottom. The hiring timeline depends on it.

Veteran programs

  • Lockheed Martin Heroes Program: SkillBridge internships, fellowships and career development programs for veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses. Candidates must be able to start within 120 days to apply.
  • Continuing Your Mission (CYM) network, which reviews military experience, matches candidates to roles and guides them through recruiting.
  • Military Relations Managers: veterans from every branch who act as transition assistance advisors throughout the hiring process.
  • 4 + 1 Commitment with Blue Star Families and Hiring Our Heroes, plus remote options and PCS job transferability for military spouses.
  • HIRE Vets Medallion (2022–2024); veterans make up about 20% of the workforce.
