What United Airlines looks for

United gives military pilots two routes. The United Military Pilot Program is for active-duty pilots of manned aircraft, including TAR, FTS, and AGR, who are more than 12 months from separation. It requires no flight-hour minimum or ATP ('military wings are your credential'), and accepted pilots receive a conditional job offer. Separated and reserve pilots apply as First Officers. That path requires an ATP with a multi-engine rating, a first-class medical, an FCC permit, and 1,500 hours total, with 1,000 hours of fixed-wing turbine time and 100 hours in the last 12 months preferred. United wants pilots who model character, think creatively, deliver results, and foster teamwork. It also wants pilots who share its core4 service behaviors: Safe, Caring, Dependable, and Efficient.

Bullet formula: Tie each bullet to a United leadership quality or core4 behavior: '[Action as a crewmember or leader] on [aircraft or mission], [measurable outcome]', showing Safe, Caring, Dependable, or Efficient, or modeling character, creative thinking, delivering results, and fostering teamwork.

Do

• If you're still on active duty and more than 12 months from separation, apply to the United Military Pilot Program. You don't need an ATP or a minimum number of hours.
• Put a clear flight-time block at the top: total, fixed-wing turbine, PIC/SIC, multi-engine, and the last 12 months. United prefers 100 hours in the last year.
• List your certificates and documents: ATP (for the First Officer path), first-class medical, FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit, and a passport valid for at least six more months.
• Show teamwork and care for people alongside airmanship, such as search and rescue, patient transport, and crew mentoring.
• Mention your bachelor's degree if you have one. United prefers it.

Avoid

• Don't wait until your last year of service. The Military Pilot Program requires at least 12 months before separation.
• Don't leave your flight time buried in paragraph bullets. Give each hour category its own line.
• Don't forget to plan around the first 12 weeks of employment. United requires availability with no planned absences.
