How to fill out the Worksheet (MILPERSMAN 1160 series)
A planning sheet for the reenlist-or-extend decision. It puts your dates, eligibility, and options (SRB, STAR, conversion, extension) in one place so the meeting with your Command Career Counselor (CCC) is productive and nothing time-sensitive is missed. When: Start at your career development board (CDB), about 16 months before SEAOS or 15 months before PRD. C-WAY builds most reenlistment applications automatically 15, 14, and 13 months before PRD (C-WAY User Guide). Revisit it whenever the SRB NAVADMIN changes.
Step by step
- Record your SEAOS, EAOS, PRD, ADSD, and years of service. Your SRB zone and the C-WAY window depend on them.
- Check eligibility: PFA status, retention recommendation on your last EVAL, NJP or pending action, and advancement or time-in-rate issues (MILPERSMAN 1160-030).
- Check C-WAY status with your CCC: application month, result (approved in rate, conversion, or not approved), and your alternatives.
- Estimate the SRB: monthly basic pay × award level (multiple) × additional months obligated ÷ 12, subject to the NAVADMIN cap and your zone.
- Consider STAR (reenlist for a guaranteed C school or NEC) and compare it with the SRB you might give up.
- If an extension fits better (a school, orders, or to reach an SRB window), plan the NAVPERS 1070/621 with its months and reason.
- Write the next steps with dates and who owns each one.
What a strong one looks like
- SRB eligibility depends on your NEC and zone on the reenlistment date. Confirm with the CCC before choosing a date.
- Extensions totaling 24 months or more require a physical before they become operative (NAVPERS 1070/621).
- Once an extension becomes operative it can't be cancelled except through the BCNR. Be sure before you sign.
- As of the June 2025 C-WAY guide, C-WAY applies to AC and TAR E-6 for reenlistment or extension, and to E-6 and below for conversions. Confirm your requirement with the CCC.
Common mistakes
- Missing the C-WAY window. Late or missing applications can close off options.
- Extending in a way that pushes you out of an SRB zone or past the bonus you wanted.
- Assuming a STAR school guarantees an SRB. A STAR NEC may carry a lower bonus than you'd get otherwise.
