38X Civil Affairs, Designated

The Army MOS 38X is a personnel classification for untrained officers in the Civil Affairs branch. The 38X classification indicates that the officer does not meet the functional area qualifications outlined in DA Pam 600-3.

The Civil Affairs branch includes the following MOSs: 38A - Civil Affairs 38G - Military Government Specialist 38B - Civil Affairs Specialist

Civil Affairs Soldiers work in teams to support both conventional and special operations forces. They identify the critical needs of local citizens in combat or crisis situations. They also maintain a good rapport with civilian agencies.

Civil Affairs Soldiers receive rigorous training to ensure they can survive in tough landscapes, analyze threats under pressure, and develop solutions to difficult problems.
