2141 - Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV)/Assault Combat Vehicle (ACV) Repairer/Technician

Summary

The AAV/ACV Repairer/Technician performs basic automotive duties including the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the AAV/ACV family of vehicles.

The AAV/ACV Repairer/Technician performs basic shop administrative actions utilizing technical manuals and automated information systems.

The AAV/ACV Repairer/Technician also operates the AAV/ACV recovery vehicle in support of combat and/or garrison operations.

As a member of the recovery crew, the AAV/ACV Repairer/Technician will perform operator and field-level maintenance and maintain/manage associated tools and equipment, of which licensed to operate.

Accordingly, they will employ land navigation techniques and must be knowledgeable with the operation of radios and weapon systems when mounted on the vehicle during tactical operations.

The Gunnery Sergeant to Corporal level supervises, and performs various duties incident to the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the automotive and turret systems of the AAV.

In addition, AAV Repairer/Technicians prepare, maintain and supervise shop maintenance and management programs, and coordinate maintenance and recovery operations according to grade and position.

Prerequisites

Must possess an MM score of 105 or higher.

Must have WS-B(+) Water Survival Qualification.

Must have normal vision to include color, acuity, field of vision and depth perception.

The examinee will not be disqualified for a vehicle operator’s license because of color blindness or depth perception.

However, if color blindness or depth perception is indicated, he or she will be given additional training, which will enable him or her to drive safely.

Must meet initial strength test standards associated with PEF assignments as listed in the glossary (pg.

xiv) prior to shipping to recruit training.

Must meet MOS classification standards as listed in the glossary (pg.

xiv) prior to graduating from recruit training.

No more than one yes in the blocks contained in section 6 on the physical fitness inquiry for motor vehicle operators form (OF-345) is acceptable.

Requirements

Complete the Assault Amphibious Vehicle Repairer Basic Course (M1018Y3), Camp Pendleton, CA or the Amphibious Combat Vehicle Basic Repairer Course (M10AH33) Camp Pendleton, CA.

Must possess the qualifications required for licensing as an ordnance vehicle operator per MCO 8400.6_.

In order to remain fit for duty, must have a current WSI swim qualification.

Corporals through gunnery sergeants are expected to have completed the Assault Amphibian Vehicle Repairer Intermediate Course (M10AHX3); and have a minimum of 12 months of obligated service remaining upon completion of the course.

Rank requirement is waiverable to lance corporal by course director/chief.

Corporals to sergeant will complete the Ground Ordnance Maintenance Supervisors Course (A14GBC6) and must remain on active duty for 12 months upon completion of the course.

Staff Sergeants to gunnery sergeants will complete the Ground Ordnance Managers Course (A14GBS6) and must remain on active duty for 12 months upon completion of the course.

Marines completing drill instructor, recruiting duty, etc.

are recommended to attend the intermediate course prior to MARFOR assignment (refresher training is not TECOM funded).
