4409 - Master of Criminal Law

Summary

A Master of Criminal Law provides specialized understanding in technical and constitutional areas of criminal law and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Prerequisites

Must be a field grade officer.

Judge Advocates who obtain the necessary LL.M or equivalent educational experience.

as a captain will not receive the additional MOS until promoted to the rank of Major.

In addition, must either: Hold a master of laws degree (LL.M.) in criminal law from an American Bar Association accredited program at a civilian institution.

Successfully complete a specialty program in criminal law from the graduate course at The Judge Advocate Generals Legal Center and School, U.S.

Army including completion of all degree requirements for an LL.M.

Successfully complete a CPIB or TLS selected litigation fellowship established with a civilian department or agency through coordination between Judge Advocate Division requirements as articulated in MCO 5800.16., MMOA, and the external department or agency.

Judge Advocate Division, in conjunction with DC, M&RA (MMOA), is responsible for assignment of this AMOS.

Duties

Judge Advocates with a Master of Laws AMOS in criminal law serve in challenging billets requiring an expertise in military and criminal law issues.

As Majors, they may serve as senior trial counsel, senior defense counsel, special trial counsel or special trial counsel team lead, special defense counsel, regional victims legal counsel, or complex trial counsel.

Lieutenant Colonels with this specialty may be assigned as regional special trial counsel, regional trial counsel or regional defense counsel.

May serve in any other MOS 4402 billet.
