5702 - Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Officer
Summary
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, And Nuclear Defense (CBRND) Officers are technical advisers for operational and tactical functions associated with CBRN protection, CBRN response, and CBRN support to countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD).
They support an organization’s planning process by providing CBRN subject matter expertise for plans, annexes, orders, and standard operating procedures.
CBRND Officers serving in protection billets develop plans to support their commander’s schemes of maneuver under CBRN conditions.
CBRND Officers serving in response billets plan and lead CBRND support to the MAGTF and joint forces.
CBRND Officers serving in CBRN analysis billets apply subject matter expertise to information and intelligence to develop a threat picture to guide the commanders planning and decision-making cycles.
CBRND Officers in senior-level management billets (MEU, MEF, MARFOR) develop plans and advise commanders and staffs on requirements related to activates and requirements to support combatant commander’s CWMD lines of effort and objectives within the supported area of operations.
Marines entering this OccFld will initially receive a basic MOS 5701, Basic Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Officer.
Depending on the level of command, CBRND Officers will fill billets as CBRND/CWMD Plans Officer, CBRND Officers, CBRN Protection Officers, or CBRN Response Officers.
Prerequisites
Applicants considered for selection as a warrant officer in MOS 5702 must be the rank of sergeant or above and have served a minimum of 2 years in a 5711/ 5769 billet, with 12 consecutive months of documented, observed fitness reports.
Security requirement: For CWO4/CWO5: must meet sensitive compartmented information (SCI) eligibility guidelines based on a single scope background investigation (SSBI)/Tier 5 (T5) investigation.
This is required in performance of duties associated with MARFOR to MSC and joint billet(s).
Active secret clearance.
This is required prior to attendance of the CBRN Defense Basic Warrant Officer Course (BWOC), USMC CBRN Defense School, Ft Leonard Wood, MO.
Must meet eligibility and appointment criteria as prescribed in MCO 1040.42_, warrant officer (WO) and limited duty officer (LDO) accession programs.
Requirements
Complete the Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) (M02RMN4), The Basic School, Quantico, VA; within 18 months of appointment to WO.
Complete the CBRN Basic Warrant Officer Course (A16EGI4), at U.S.
Marine Corps CBRN School, Ft Leonard Wood, MO.
Officers will normally complete the CBRN course immediately upon graduation from WOBC to qualify for and be awarded MOS 5702.
Any 5701 officer who has not completed the CBRN Basic Warrant Officer Course after two years will be considered unqualified and subject to termination.
