5950 - Air Traffic Control Systems Officer

Summary

Air Traffic Control (ATC) Systems Officers supervise and coordinate the installation, sighting, operation, training, maintenance, and repair of ATC and meteorology and oceanography (METOC) systems and equipment.

Must possess a detailed, working knowledge of all Navy sponsored aviation maintenance programs and processes governed by the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program Manual and familiarization with the ground equipment maintenance program.

Fleet marine forces billet assignments for this officer will be in the marine air control group.

Non-Fleet Marine Forces billet assignments for this officer include maintenance billets at marine corps air stations, marine corps air facilities, and marine corps installation command.

The ATC Systems Officer should complete the Marine Air Traffic Control Maintenance Management Course and Joint Aviation Supply and Maintenance Material Management Course after selection to warrant officer.

PMOS is not dependent upon the completion of these courses.

Upon appointment to warrant officer, PMOS 5950 is assigned.

Prerequisites

Security requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.

Must meet eligibility and appointment criteria as prescribed in MCO 1040.42B, WO and LDO accession programs.

This MOS may only be assigned to warrant officers who previously were qualified in the enlisted MOSs: 5951, 5952, 5953, or 5954.

Requirements

MOS is assigned after Marine is promoted to warrant officer.

Complete the Marine Air Traffic Control Maintenance Mangers Course (N23KCN2).

Complete the Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) (M02RMN4) within 18 months of appointment to WO.

Skill progression schools/courses recommended for the ATC Systems Officer include: MACCS Maintenance Officer course (M0968K1).

Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (M14P2A1).

Naval Aviation Quality Assurance Administrators Course (M04M539).

Duties

Supervises operation and maintenance of specific ATC and METOC systems and common ground equipment used in Marine ATC companies or in Marine ATC facilities.

Manages the status of equipment, progress of work, repair parts requirements, training and qualification of maintenance personnel, and advises on all technical matters pertaining to the ATC and METOC systems and equipment.

Provides information concerning capabilities, limitations, and reliability of ATC and METOC systems and equipment.

Communications planner for ATC services in expeditionary amphibious base operations and ensures command and control for littoral operations in a contested environment.

Collects and disseminates technical instructions and directives applicable to the maintenance and operation of systems and equipment.

Prepares timely estimates and justification for funds required for the maintenance of installed systems and equipment.

Maintains authorized allowances of tools and test and support equipment.

Administers the preventive and corrective maintenance program.

Conducts maintenance management of assigned equipment.

Collects and analyzes maintenance data for reports.
