6012 - Aviation Maintenance Controller

Summary

Aviation Maintenance Controllers are responsible for the efficient attainment of aircraft and equipment readiness in support of operational objectives.

Maintenance Control will manage all action to retain or restore material or equipment to a serviceable condition with a minimum of expenditure of resources.

They also supervise and manage the material control center to ensure effective coordination with the Aviation Supply Department (ASD) for all required indirect materials.

A high level of management abilities and aviation maintenance experience is required to supervise the execution of the various tasks encompassed within the wide spectrum of aviation maintenance matters.

They must possess a detailed, working knowledge of reference (ad) COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2.

In addition, Aviation Maintenance Controllers must have detailed knowledge of the Optimized Organizational Maintenance Activity Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information Systems (OOMA/NALCOMIS).

They must also possess a detailed, working knowledge of Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information Systems (NALCOMIS), Relational Supply (R-Supply) and all NAMP and processes governed by reference (bs).

Strong written and verbal communication, and computer skills are needed in the performance of their duties.

Prerequisites

Must possess a primary MOS from any of the following OccFlds: 60/61/62, Aircraft Maintenance; 63/64, Avionics; 65, Aviation Ordnance.

Requirements

Must complete the following: Naval Aviation Maintenance Control Management for Optimized Organizational Maintenance Activity (OOMA) (C-555-0053).

All required “Safe-For-Flight” (SFF) training in accordance with reference (ad) COMNAVFORINST 4790.2 and (bn) NAVMC 4790.1.

Be SFF designated for a minimum of 6 months.

Duties

The following is a summary of duties.

For a complete listing of duties and tasks, refer to reference (ad) COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 and (bn) NAVMC 4790.1: Assist the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Officer in the day to day management of the maintenance department.

Coordinate with the operations department to ensure alignment of the operations and maintenance plan.

Establish long and short term goals and priorities for the maintenance department in order to support operational planning.

Plan, direct, communicate, and manage all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance actions for aircraft and support equipment for the entire maintenance department.

Assign aircraft to the daily flight schedule, ensuring operational subsystems are capable of executing the assigned mission.

Ensure all maintenance actions are properly documented.

Ensure all maintenance actions requiring Functional Check Flight (FCF) are properly annotated.

Ensure all FCFs are performed prior to assignment of aircraft to the flight schedule.

Certify aircraft “Safe-For-Flight” prior to all flights.

Screen all material requests from work centers prior to forwarding to aviation supply.

Ensure effective utilization of personnel by working with the appropriate work center supervisor.

Strong written and verbal communications skills and managerial skills are required.

Basic computer skills and familiarity of Microsoft Office products are required.

Utilize various information management systems.

Upon meeting all eligibility listed for the certification of this MOS, the individual recipient shall coordinate with their unit administration department to ensure this MOS is added to their Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) in order to accurately reflect the corresponding aviation qualification/designation within their permanent record.
