6019 - Aircraft Maintenance Chief

Summary

Aircraft Maintenance Chiefs are directly responsible to the Commanding Officer for the establishment and sustainment of all maintenance areas and functions within a fixed-wing, rotary-wing, tilt-rotor, and aviation logistics squadron or repair facility.

Their leadership and expertise are essential to the success of the unit.

They are the Senior Enlisted Maintenance Advisors to the Commanding Officer (CO) for all maintenance Marines’ qualifications and professional development.

They report to the Aircraft Maintenance Officer (AMO) on all matters affecting aircraft maintenance and maintenance personnel.

They assist in the planning, management, supervision, and execution of all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and flight operations.

Prerequisites

Shall possess a primary MOS from any of the following OccFlds: 60/61/62, Aircraft Maintenance.

Duties

This list is not all encompassing, for a complete list of duties refer to reference (ad) COMNANAIRFORINST 4790.2 series and reference (bn) NAVMC 4790.1 series.

Liaison to the AMO, OPSO, and CO in planning, coordinating, and executing daily flight and maintenance operations and all scheduled unit deployments in support of global military operations.

Liaison to the squadron’s SgtMaj for all enlisted matters pertaining to ground training, Professional Military Education, personal deployment readiness, mentorship, and good order and discipline.

Advise and assist the AMO by identifying and providing training to correct maintenance program deficiencies.

Must be able to apply sound management principles and have strong verbal communication abilities in order to establish and convey department goals and priorities.

Coordinate and manage aviation maintenance or repair activity’s manpower requirements, to optimize the activity’s readiness through the appropriate assignment of Maintenance/Enlisted Aircrew Marines, based on experience, throughout the MAG, MAW, MARFOR, and HQMC levels.

Utilizing sound management principles and various management information systems; plan, schedule, and execute a training program, based on the NAVMC 4790.1 series Aviation Maintenance and Supply Training and Readiness Program Manual, to ensure required maintainer competency (RMC) capabilities are adequate for mission accomplishment.

Ensure facilities are equipped to support the maintenance and repair of aircraft, components, and support equipment.

Supervise the planning, directing, coordinating, and execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance efforts for all aircraft mechanics, technicians, and ordnance men in the performance of their duties.

Supervise the requisitioning of aeronautical components, consumables, and support equipment.

Assist with forecasting and managing the fiscal year operational expenditures.

Analyze the activity’s Quality Assurance Audit Program, maintenance processes, and day-to-day maintenance operations in order to provide the CO and AMO with recommendations to improve readiness and manage risks that are associated with aircraft maintenance performed in a high tempo environment.

Continuously monitor maintenance operations to ensure strict adherence to orders, regulations, and maintenance instruction manuals.

Strong written skills are needed in order to apply Marine Corps administrative procedures in the preparation and execution of official correspondence.

Strong written and verbal communication, and computer skills are needed in the performance of their duties.
