6171 - Night Systems Instructor (NSI) Enlisted Aircrew
Summary
Night Systems Instructor (NSI) Enlisted Aircrew are responsible for the initial and refresher training of unit aircrew, focusing on the utilization of Night Vision Devices (NVDs) during night time operations.
They assist the unit’s Weapons and Tactics Instructors (WTI) in the continual training of enlisted aircrew in order to ensure the unit’s deployment readiness status, capable of accomplishing its assigned Mission Essential Tasks (METS).
Prerequisites
Must possess MOSs: 6173, 6174, 6176, 6276, or 7372.
Security requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.
Requirements
Must successfully complete the NSI syllabus for their respective type model series in accordance with the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) Course Catalog.
Primary MOSs 61XX must be designated as an Aerial Gunnery Instructor or Tail Gunnery Instructor if not already required by TMS specific MAWTS-1 Course Catalog.

Duties
The following is a summary of duties: For a complete listing of duties and tasks, refer to the Training and Readiness (T&R) manual for the respective TMS in accordance with reference (bo) NAVMC 3500.14.
Trained and knowledgeable in various instructional techniques.
Trained and knowledgeable in their respective TMS aircraft, mission, and weapons systems.
Provide ground based instruction via lectures, oral discussions, and labs on the night environment, NVDs, aircraft employment, TMS specific aircraft, mission, and weapons systems, aircrew duties, and standardized communication.
Provide in-flight instruction on the night environment, NVDs, aircraft employment, TMS specific aircraft/mission/weapons systems, aircrew duties, and standardized communication.
Provide a brief and de-brief for all ground and in-flight evolutions.
Ensure timely completion of all aircrew training forms at the completion of a T&R event.
Upon meeting all eligibility listed for the certification of this MOS, the individual recipient shall coordinate with their unit administration department to ensure this MOS is added to their Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) in order to accurately reflect the corresponding aviation qualification/designation within their permanent record.
