6177 - Weapons and Tactics Crew Chief Instructor

Summary

Weapons and Tactics Instructors (WTI) are the senior instructors, for all Crew Chiefs (CCs) and Aerial Observers (AOs) within their squadron.

They are familiarized with Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) concepts, planning, and operations, with a focus on the integration of their specific type model series (TMS) aircraft during operations in all environmental and threat conditions.

They are familiarized with adult learning theory and various learning taxonomies e.g.

Blooms, Finks, SOLO, etc.

They instruct everything from basic level aircraft, weapons, and mission’s systems knowledge and employment, to advanced level tactics, techniques, and procedures, for their specific TMS along with MAGTF concepts and integration.

They train and evaluate Marines for basic instructor qualifications and prepare them for advanced instructor qualifications evaluated by Marine Aviation Weapon and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1).

WTIs are capable of creating and executing a full spectrum training plan to ensure the squadron’s readiness level for the accomplishment of their assigned mission essential task list (METL).

As such, any WTI is able to be assigned as the Enlisted Aircrew Training Manager (EATM) for the squadron.

The squadron Maintenance chief with the help of the line division chief and senior ranking WTI Crew Chief will assign an EATM to the operations department where they will report directly to the operations officer.

Prerequisites

Must possess one of the following Primary MOSs: 6173, 6174, 6176, 6276, or 7372.

Security requirement: secret security clearance.

Duties

The following is a summary of duties: For a complete listing of duties and tasks, refer to reference (ad) COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2, (bn) NAVMC 4790.1, and TMS specific T&R and MAWTS-1 course catalog per reference (bo) NAVMC 3500.14.

All WTIs perform the following duties: Assist the EATM in the execution of the training plan.

Report to the EATM on the progress of trainees.

Assist the EATM in identifying potential future instructors.

Train and qualify CCs and AOs in accordance with TMS specific T&R per reference (bo) NAVMC 3500.14.

Train and qualify basic level instructors in accordance with the MAWTS-1 Course Catalog per reference (bo) NAVMC 3500.14.

Train and prepare advanced level instructors for evaluation and certification by MAWTS-1 in accordance with the MAWTS-1 Course Catalog per reference (bo) NAVMC 3500.14.

Instruct course curriculum developed by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1).

Provide academic, static, hands-on, simulated, in-flight instruction and evaluation to CCs and AOs on the following: Aircraft, mission, and weapons, systems, and employment.

Tactics, techniques, and procedures.

Threats, levels, detection, evaluation, avoidance, engagement, and evasion.

Six functions of Marine aviation.

Full spectrum of warfare.

MAGTF level concepts, planning, operations, and integration.

Employ crew, operational, and tactical risk management concepts to all aspects of training.

Provide a brief to trainees prior to all T&R related events.

Provide a de-brief to trainees after all T&R related events.

Submit aircrew training forms (ATFs) for completed T&R events in a timely manner to the EATM.

In addition to the above duties, WTI’s assigned as the squadron EATM will also perform the following duties: Plan, execute, and supervise a full spectrum training plan to ensure the squadron’s readiness level to accomplish their assigned METLs as directed.

Ensure standardization among instructor cadre.

Ensure all instructors submit ATFs in a timely manner.

Solicit feedback from instructor cadre on CC/AO progression or deficiencies.

Assign CCs and AOs to the squadron’s flight schedule, ensuring mission accomplishment and aircrew progression.

Coordinate with current and future operations officer’s to align pilot and CC/AO training to optimize results.

Coordinate with the maintenance department (i.e.

maintenance control, ordnance, line division, etc.) as needed, for CC/AO training requirements.

Serve as Enlisted aircrew representative on the Safety and Standardization and Human Factors Board.

Report on CC/AO training progress or deficiency.

Address any safety or standardization issues.

Address any personal issues among aircrew.

Propose future instructors.
