6302 - Avionics Officer
Summary
Avionics Officers (AVOs) direct the avionics department’s effort at the organizational and intermediate maintenance levels to provide the maximum support, coordination, and leadership in support of the organizational/intermediate level mission in the respective areas of aircraft maintenance, avionics equipment maintenance, integrated logistics resource management, and professional personnel development.
AVOs are the subject matter experts on all avionics related matters and serve as the staff adviser to the commanding officer and other staff officers throughout the organization.
The AVO is directly responsible to the commanding officer for the management, administration and control of the electronic countermeasures, aircraft survivability equipment and electronic key management system programs.
Prerequisites
Security Requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.
This MOS may only be assigned to Marines qualified in one of the following MOSs 63XX or 64XX.
Must meet eligibility and appointment criteria as prescribed in MCO 1040.42B, WO and LDO accession programs.
Requirements
Warrant Officers (III): Newly promoted 6302 warrant officers must complete The Basic School, Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) (M02RMN4), Quantico, VA within 18 months of appointment to WO; and the first available Avionics Officer/Avionics Chief Foundation Course (N2362X2) at NAS Pensacola, FL.
Enlisted Marines applying for selection as 6302 warrant officers must meet the prerequisites in paragraph 2.b.
and have demonstrated aviation maintenance technical qualifications through the sustained superior performance of duties within their MOS.
MOS credibility is paramount to any other quality.
Proficiency and expertise are typically identified by quality assurance representative, collateral duty inspector, and collateral duty quality assurance representative designations (AMOS 6016, 6017, or 6018).
Any of these designations are indicators of a Marine’s technical expertise within an assigned MOS.
Limited Duty Officers (II): Only 6302 chief warrant officers may apply for appointment as 6302 LDOs.
Applicants for MOS 6302 LDO must have demonstrated aviation maintenance technical qualifications through the superior performance of duties as 6302 warrant officers.

Duties
Responsible to the commanding officer for the operation of the avionics division/department, to include: operational, technical, and administrative functions, asset utilization, and configuration management of all squadron Avionics assets.
Advise the maintenance officer on all division/department matters pertaining to the ability to support squadron maintenance efforts, training requirements, personnel qualifications, calibration requirements, and current and planned projects within the division/department.
Ensures proper and effective training, supervision, documentation and utilization of personnel in maintenance practices in accordance with appropriate orders and publications.
Directs and monitors all avionics transactions with the supply department, as well as the remainder of aviation maintenance, while evaluating the effectiveness of the avionics department to respond to published flying hour programs.
Ensures all avionics personnel are trained, certified, and capable of safely repairing aircraft, aeronautical components, and aviation support equipment within the scope of their MOS in accordance with applicable instructions.
Responsible for the proper handling, updating, managing, auditing, and safeguarding of avionics aircraft publications and equipment.
Serves as staff advisor to the commanding officer/staff officers in the chain of command on avionics matters.
Pursue Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement (DAWIA) Certification in order to gain qualifications prior to entering senior billets within the MOS (see MOS 8060).
