6391 - Avionics Chief

Summary

Avionics Chiefs, as staff noncommissioned officers in charge of the avionics department supervise the maintenance and repair of aircraft avionics systems, equipment and components at the IMA/OMA levels.

At the intermediate maintenance activity (MALS), the Avionics Chief (MGySgt) serves as the OccFld sponsor for all 63/6400 MOS within the MAG.

At the organizational maintenance activity, the Avionics Chief holds the responsibility of managing the tier III EKMS account/assets as well as manages avionics manpower within the unit.

Prerequisites

Must be a U.S.

citizen.

Must have normal color perception.

Must possess an EL score of 105 or higher.

Security requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.

Requirements

Must satisfy the requirements for one of the PMOSs within the 6300 or 6400 OccFlds.

Upon promotion to the rank of master sergeant, should attend and successfully complete the Avionics Officer/Avionics Chief Foundation Course (N2362X2) at NAS Pensacola, FL.

Duties

MGySgt and MSgt: Provides subject matter expertise to appropriate 63XX and 64XX lower level MOSs and input on career progression of all Marines in their charge.

Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 and 3M procedures.

Ensures facilities are organized to support the maintenance and repair of avionics systems, equipment, or components at the IMA/OMA levels.

Supervise the requisition of spare/replacement parts and necessary work center supplies and equipment using publications and supply documents.

Maintains appropriate records of all maintenance and inspection actions performed, technical training conducted, and organic equipment assigned to the avionics department.

Possesses a thorough understanding and working knowledge of sound management principles, work center supervision, proper methods of training personnel, and accepted and approved avionics maintenance procedures.

Pursues Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement (DAWIA) Certification in order to gain qualifications prior to entering senior billets within the MOS.

Marines serving in billets coded with an additional skill designator (ASD) MOS 8060 as per the table of organization must attain the appropriate certification level through the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) within 24 months of billet assignment.

The three primary areas of study typically applicable to AVLOG are: Life Cycle Logistics (LCL).

Production, Quality, Manufacturing (PQM).

Program Management (PM).

MGySgt: Possesses a thorough understanding and working knowledge of Marine Corps administrative procedures including the format, preparation, and submission of naval messages.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Marine Corps aviation staff organization and functioning of the Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron, Marine Aircraft Wing, and FMF Headquarters levels.
