6577 - Aviation Ordnance Weapons and Tactics Instructor

Summary

Ordnance Chief, quality assurance safety observer and/or collateral duty inspector assigned to an organizational, intermediate level work center or staff billet are subject matter experts (SME) on the tactical employment of expeditionary aviation ordnance operations.

AO WTI Marines support MAGTF and squadron commanders by maintaining safety and operational standards, readiness levels and possess the knowledge required to successfully plan, brief, and execute any technique, tactic or procedure authorized in our warfighting doctrine.

They are intimately familiar with all aspects of employing an ordnance division/department in any expeditionary environment or operation.

They are experts in forward arming refueling points/forward operational bases/distributed aircraft operations and expeditionary advanced based operation concepts

Prerequisites

Must obtain one of the following: Must hold a 6591 MOS.

Or, must be a sergeant or above with a 6531 or 6541 MOS and must possess, or have previously held, the MCO 8023 qualification/certification of Quality Assurance/Safety Observer (QA/SO).

Requirements

Must successfully complete the MAWTS-1 Expeditionary Ordnance Course (MEOC) (M14G221).

Must be certified and approved by squadron commanding officer.

Duties

As an Expeditionary Ordnance Subject Matter Expert they must be able to effectively and accurately articulate current and future capabilities of a unit’s ordnance division/department based on current structure, manpower and qualifications.

Identify potential problems and solve all issues related to logistical considerations, requirements and capabilities, execution, potential contingencies and retrograde of all weapons and personnel while observing and adhering to all orders and regulations regarding explosive safety.

Increase the squadron commander’s capability and lethality by creating, providing, and briefing innovative solutions and improvements to plans, minimizing risk and increasing combat effectiveness.

Responsible for providing the most capable and highest trained ordnance division/department to commanders IOT accomplish any given task.
