7314 - Sensor Operator (SO), MQ-9
Summary
MQ-9 Reaper Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Sensor Operators (SO) conduct multi-imagery sensor reconnaissance (MIR) and surveillance of potential targets and areas of interest.
The Sensor Operator detects, analyzes and discriminates between valid and invalid targets using synthetic aperture radar (SAR), electro-optical, low-light, and infrared full-motion video imagery, and other active or passive acquisition and tracking systems.
Sensor Operators assist the pilot in air navigation, flight planning, and other crew coordination tasks to achieve overall mission objectives.
The Sensor Operator utilizes laser target marking systems to provide target identification and illumination, in support of other combat assets.
Prerequisites
Must be a U.S.
citizen.
Must have normal color vision.
Must have a five year term of enlistment.
Security requirement: TS/SCI clearance paperwork must be initiated prior to arrival at first course.
Must meet SCI eligibility guidelines based on a single scope background T5 investigation.
Prior to conducting a lateral move, all applicants are required to complete SCI pre-screen interview with HQMC SSO to determine TS/SCI eligibility.
Must pass a class IV flight physical per reference (ai), Manual of Naval Medical Department, Section IV, Article 15-100.
Must possess a GT score of 110 or higher.
This prerequisite is non-waiver able.
Requirements
Complete the requirements for Basic Unmanned Qualification II (BUQ-II) in accordance with CJCSI 3255.01 by completing the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Operator Common Core Course (M04VAHD) at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
Complete the formal training at the USAF Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Course (F16H3Q4) BSOC.
Complete the USAF MQ-9 Enlisted Course (F34RPD1) Initial Qualification Training (IQT) School, Holloman AFB, NM.
Upon successful completion of MQ-9A IQT PMOS 7314 may be awarded and Sensor Operators (SO) are authorized to wear the Marine Unmanned Aircraft System Breast Insignia per MCO 1020.34.

Duties

Tasks include but are not limited to the following: Monitor aircraft and payload systems status.
Employ airborne sensors in manual or computer-assisted modes.
Operates mission equipment, systems, and electronic protection (EP) equipment.
Actively and/or passively acquire, track, and monitor airborne, maritime and ground objects.
