8220 - Billet Designator-Political Military Officer
Summary
The Political-Military Officer MOS is used to designate those billets requiring advanced knowledge and experience in international affairs.
Officers assigned to fill these billets may include, but are not limited to Regional Affairs Officers (RAO) and Foreign Area Officers (FAO).
It will also be used to identify officers undergoing training as RAOs until they complete the requirements for designation in a regional sub-specialty (FMOS 8221-8228), Officers participating in Foreign Professional Military Education (FPME) or Personnel Exchange Program (PEP) participants in English-speaking countries.
Additionally, Officers who serve in non-regionally affiliated political military (pol-mil) affairs billets which do not require the ability to speak a secondary language qualify for this FMOS (i.e.
legislative affairs, Department of State, Liaison Officers, Political/Military Fellowships, or other interagency department requiring pol-mil expertise).
This MOS may be assigned only as a FMOS.
MOS 8220 will be assigned and voided only by authority of CMC (MM).
Prerequisites
Must have been selected to the international affairs program through the commandant’s professional intermediate-level board and started the national security affairs graduate degree program.
Requirements
This MOS is to be used as a billet designator in T/Os.
