8711 - Ground Command and Control (C2) Operations NCO

Summary

The GCE C2 OPS NCO assists with the conduct of planning and execution of operations across all five domains within the competition continuum for company to battalion-sized units within a marine air-ground task force (MAGTF).

They support the operational planning team (OPT) during planning, transition, and execution of an operations order (OPORD).

Assist in establishing a command post (CP) or C2 Node.

Responsible for creating and maintaining the analog and digital common tactical picture (CTP) and coordinating between the warfighting functions to facilitate information flow within a CP/C2 Node.

Marines will be able to coordinate with internal and supporting agencies to aggregate and disseminate information in accordance with a tactical SOP (TACSOP).

Assist the OpsO/Ops chief in the planning, preparation, execution, and assessment of operations.

Identifying C2 systems architecture requirements to the communications officer.

In the performance of their duties, use a variety of collaborative tools to support information exchange requirements (IER), and information and knowledge management (IKM) requirements.

Prerequisites

Security requirement: secret clearance.

Complete the command screening checklist.

Grade requirements waiverable for 17XX community.

Have 12 months remaining on contract and/or have a reenlistment package in the system, or one deployment remaining.

Recommended that students be familiar with orienting/reading a map, operational terms and graphics, command & control personal computer (C2PC), and Microsoft Office Suite.

Duties

Support the planning process.

Supervise the maintenance of the CTP.

Assist in creating staff briefs as required.

Post information/events on maps and status boards.

Assume other duties as designated by the OpsO and Ops chief.

Implement established track management procedures (Annex U).

Participate in the establishment and displacement of the CP/C2 Node.

Assist OpsO/Ops Chief in quality control of maps, products, and information.

Assist in the preparation, reproduction and distribution of the operations order.

Assist in the preparation, reproduction and distribution of messages and reports.

Aid in the adherence of established signature management procedures (EMCON/PACE) Supervise and assist CP/C2 Node personnel to ensuring monitoring of assigned tactical networks.

Supervise other CP/C2 Node watch standers in supporting their respective functional areas.

Conduct basic troubleshooting of blue force situational awareness (BFSA) C2 systems and collaboration tools.

Assist CP/C2 Node personnel in the configuration and login procedures for C2 Systems and Collaboration tools.

Battle track the execution of all tasks; ensuring information reported in a timely manner to the higher headquarters to support decision-making.

Fuse individual war fighting functions (WFF) recognizable pictures information into a combined CTP to provide situational awareness and facilitate decision-making.
