8713 - Ground Operations Specialist

Summary

Maneuver Warfare Specialist (MWS) assist with the planning and execution of the unit’s training management program, the conduct of operational planning, and the execution of operations across all five domains within the competition continuum for company to regimental sized units within a marine air-ground task force (MAGTF).

They supervise and coordinate the preparation and assignment of personnel/equipment in accordance with the table of organization/table of equipment of their unit and advise the commander on the employment of the operational command post (OCP).

During tactical operations, the MWS performs those activities associated with helping the commanders and their battle staff understand, visualize, describe, direct, lead, and assess operations.

Supervises the establishment and operation of unit command and control to include the integration and synchronization of the warfighting functions.

Prerequisites

Attend the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Integrated Systems Training Center (MISTC) Watch Officer/Watch Chief (WO/WC) Course at one of the listed locations: (M21KDA5) Kaneohe Bay, HI.

(M03KDAE) Camp Lejeune, NC.

(M10KDAT) Camp Pendleton, CA.

(M22KDA2) Camp Butler, Okinawa.

Requirements

Marine must have completed the Maneuver Warfare Course (N03KBC1) at EWTGLANT, Norfolk, VA; or the Maneuver Warfare Course (N30RCC1) at EWTGPAC, NAB Coronado, San Diego, CA.

Duties

Carries out the orders of the commander and or operations officer.

Assist in supervising the daily functions and information flow within the unit’s OCP.

Assist with the planning and execution of the unit’s training management program.

Coordinate, plan, and supervise the training with MAGTF enablers in support of operations.

Assists the commander and or operations officer in detailed planning for current and future operations.

Assist the commander in battlespace management to include casualty processing, and management, and Enemy Prisoner of War (EPW) handling.

Assist in supervising the actions within the fire support coordination center (FSC) or fires and effects coordination center (FECC) (WPNS).

Coordinates and supervises the embarkation and debarkation for deployment of the unit, maintenance, condition, and care of the unit’s weapons and equipment.

Provide innovative and informed solutions to complex problems across all five domains in the competition continuum to the commander and or operations officer.

Assists with the fire support planning process, the preparation of plans and orders for fire support, and the specific operational techniques required for the coordinated employment of fire support assets across physical and information environments.

Assists operations officers to determine the scope of the operation and command and control (C2) relationships with the commanding officer, amphibious task force, marine service component, marine expeditionary force, strike group, joint forces, department of state representatives, other United States government agencies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Supervises the OCP functions and current command, control, communications, computer, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting (C5ISRT) systems & architecture; and the implementation of the information management plan.
