9701 - Joint Level II Officer

Summary

Joint Level II Officers are officers that do not fully qualify for the 9702 joint MOS.

Joint Level II Officers are recognized for their joint matters experience and completion of Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) I.

The Secretary of the Military Department is the approval authority for 9701.

Prerequisites

Must be at minimum in the grade of O3.

Certified by the commandant of the Marine Corps.

Must be identified as a Joint Level II Officer through the Joint Duty Assignment Management Information System.

Must have been assigned to a standard joint duty assignment (S-JDA) or gain experience points through joint matters experience.

S-JDAs only include those positions that are on the joint duty assignment list.

Requirements

Must accrue 12 joint qualification points (a minimum of 6 of the 12 points must be derived from joint duty or experiences other than joint training or joint exercises) or have been awarded full joint duty credit in a S-JDA.

Joint qualification points for experience are approved through the Joint Staff Experience-Based Joint Duty Assignment Board.

Must successfully complete JPME Phase I.

May accrue up to 6 discretionary points derived from joint training, joint exercises, and education or training other than JPME that enhances an officers knowledge and understanding of joint matters.

Officers who have full joint tour credit and have completed JPME Phase I may be designated as Level II by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
