LSS Logistics Specialist

LSS stands for Logistics Specialist Submarines.

Logistics Specialists (LS) are a key component of Navy operations. They are responsible for supplying the parts and materials necessary to complete maritime missions around the world.

LSSs receive extensive training in managing repair parts and consumables for submarines, submarine support, and shore bases. They also maintain million dollar operating budgets.

LSSs manage inventories of repair parts and general supplies. They also distribute mail for submarines and shore-based activities.

LSSs spend about 60 percent of their time assigned to fleet units and 40 percent to shore stations. They also maintain logistics and financial publications and CD-ROM libraries.

The Navy uses ratings within the Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) system to organize its jobs.
