MT Missile Technician
In the United States Navy, MT stands for Missile Technician.
MTs are responsible for: Operating, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing ballistic missile weapons systems Maintaining ballistic missiles and their components Testing and maintaining missile launch systems, including hydraulic and high-pressure air systems Maintaining and operating ballistic missile fire control systems and equipment for Trident submarines Performing organizational and intermediate level maintenance on the Strategic Weapons System (SWS) on Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBN) or the Attack Weapons System (AWS) on Guided Missile Submarines (SSGN) Maintaining control of classified material Monitoring and ensuring security of weapons system components and material
MTs receive extensive training in the operation and maintenance of: Advanced electronic equipment and computers Electro-mechanical support systems used in submarine strategic weapons systems
MTs must be U.S. citizens eligible for a security clearance. They must also complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and a Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) screening.
MTs complete initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, also known as Boot Camp. They then report to Basic Submarine School and Basic Mechanical Skills in Groton, CT, for 7 weeks.
