RS Retail Services Specialist
A Retail Services Specialist (RS) in the United States Navy manages and operates all shipboard retail and service activities.
These activities include: Ship’s store, Vending machines, Coffee kiosks, Barber shops, Laundry operations, Video games, Tailor shops, Postal services, Hotel services.
RSes play a large role in the morale of the ship. They provide direct personal services.
RSes are ranked as E-4, E-5, or E-6. They complete initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (known as Boot Camp).
They then report for specialized training, including: Class “A” Technical School in Meridian, MS Advanced Training Post-Service Opportunities
The five-week course is self-spaced and uses an Integrated Learning Environment. The course trains on cash handling, retail operations, and laundry operations.
RSes can earn a path to a commission through the LDO program and several other programs. These programs include: STA-21, OCS, MECP, MSC-IPP, The Naval Academy.
