Airfield Management specialists (1C7X1) are responsible for managing airfield operations and ensuring the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations within the airfield environment and through national and international airspace systems. They coordinate with aircrews, air traffic control, and various base agencies to support safe flying operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts airfield inspections, including runways, taxiways, and related facilities, to identify and mitigate flight safety hazards.
- Responds to and manages wildlife, foreign object debris (FOD), and other hazards on the airfield.
- Provides aircrew pre-flight briefings on airfield status, taxi routes, and operational hazards.
- Coordinates support for transient aircrews, including refueling, maintenance, and accommodations.
- Manages information vital for safe aircraft operations, such as NOTAMs, airfield status, and navigational aid status.
- Enforces airfield operations policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with international and national regulations.
- Manages the base airfield driving program, including training, certification, and violation remedial actions.
- Supports expeditionary airfield management functions for global deployment of DoD aircraft.
Specialty Qualifications
- Knowledge: Proficiency in international and national airfield regulations, aeronautical charts, flight data systems, navigational aids, aircraft characteristics, and airfield management principles is mandatory.
- Education: High school diploma with a typing course is recommended.
- Training: Completion of the Airfield Management Apprentice course is required.
- Experience: Progression through the AFSC requires experience in performing and supervising airfield management operations, including airfield inspections, emergency responses, NOTAM processing, and coordination with various agencies to ensure the safety and efficiency of airfield operations.
