1C8X1 Ground Radar Systems

1C8X1 is an Air Force specialty that installs, maintains, and repairs ground radar systems. These systems include: Air traffic control Weather Ground aircraft control and warning Radar operator training devices Aircraft identification equipment Remoting systems Video mappers Computerized processors 1C8X1 merged with 1C8X2, Airfield Systems, to become 1C8X3, Radar, Airfield, and Weather Systems (RAWS). Ground radar systems are used for: Air defense Command guidance Air traffic control Instrument landing systems Radar bomb scoring Ground radars can detect targets up to 25 miles away if they’re very low to the ground. For targets higher up in the air or space, the effective range could be hundreds of miles.
