QM Quartermaster
A quartermaster (QM) in the U.S. Navy is an enlisted member who specializes in navigation.
They are responsible for: Watch-to-watch navigation Maintaining, correcting, and preparing nautical charts and navigation publications Training ship’s lookouts and helmsmen Serving as assistants to officers of the deck and the navigator Performing ship control as helmsman Serving watch on the bridge Procuring, correcting, using, and stowing navigational and oceanographic publications and oceanographic charts
QMs also focus on mapping and charts, and using electronic navigation systems.
There are 22 credentials closely related to the tasks performed in this rating that may be attainable as soon as Class “A” technical school has been completed.
