46A Public Affairs, General
The Army MOS 46A is a Public Affairs Officer. Public Affairs Officers are responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing broadcast journalist and engineer resources. They also advise commanders and staff members on global information environment issues that may impact operations.
To become a Public Affairs Officer, you must complete an officer training program and a public affairs course. Experience with related activities, such as photography or talking to the media, can help you stand out from other applicants.
Army officers from the 18 primary officer branches can apply to join the Public Affairs Functional Area (FA46) after being selected for promotion to 1st lieutenant. If selected by the Voluntary Transfer Incentive Program (VTIP), officers are given the officer Functional Area code 46A.
Public Affairs Officers are both active and reserve officers.
