5811 military police

The Marine Corps Military Police Occupational Specialty (MOS) 5811 is the designation for military police officers. These Marines are responsible for policing military bases worldwide. They perform similar duties to civilian police officers, but only deal with military members and their families.

Military police officers maintain order while in garrison and assist with patrols and security while deployed. They also uphold the criminal justice system, maintain good order and discipline, and support the commander’s law enforcement and security requirements.

The military places roles in groups based on occupational fields. The first two digits of the code represent the occupational field. For example, the code for the Marine Corps Military Police is MOS 5811. The code for the Marine Corps Military Police Officer is MOS 5803.

The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Program (MCLEP) is made up of federal police officers and support personnel. They provide police and security services to Marine Corps installations.
