12M Firefighter
The Army MOS 12M is a firefighter who protects lives and property from fire. They perform firefighting, rescue, salvage, and fire protection operations.
They also direct rescue and firefighting operations during: Structural fires Aircraft crash incidents Vehicle emergencies Natural cover fires
Army firefighters do the same things as civilian firefighters. They control fires and help prevent them in buildings, aircraft, and aboard ships.
They also: Oversee firehouse operations Maintain personnel training and qualifications Educate base agencies on risks and fire resources Conduct fire prevention operations Analyze vulnerabilities and hazards Develop plans to mitigate potential damage
After completing army basic combat training, future Army firefighters receive 13 weeks of advanced individual training (AIT) at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas. The training is a combination of classroom studies and field training. Firefighters learn how to put out different types of fires using equipment and rescue procedures.
