8P100 Defense Attaché
8P100 is the Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) for a Defense Attaché. A Defense Attaché manages and maintains the budget and fiscal data for the Defense Attaché Office (DAO). They also maintain DAO information. A Defense Attaché is a member of the armed forces who serves in an embassy as a representative of their country’s defense establishment abroad. They enjoy diplomatic status and immunity. The Defense Attaché System is an arm of the Defense Intelligence Agency. It is tasked with representing the United States in defense and military related matters with foreign governments around the world. To qualify to become a military attache, you must be at least a major or lieutenant commander. You must also inform your Service personnel center that you are interested in an attaché assignment and take the Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB) test. Interested airmen can volunteer via EQUAL Plus under AFSC 8P100.
