Duties and Responsibilities:

2A6X5 technicians are responsible for:

  • Advising on maintenance procedures for aircraft hydraulic systems.
  • Inspecting, operating, and troubleshooting aircraft hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components.
  • Identifying and isolating malfunctions in various systems including landing gear, flight controls, and air refueling receiving systems.
  • Overhauling, repairing, and testing hydraulic system components.
  • Fabricating hose assemblies and maintaining shop equipment.
  • Using technical orders and schematic diagrams to diagnose issues.
  • Managing hazardous materials according to environmental standards.

Specialty Qualifications:

Knowledge: Essential knowledge includes electrical/electronic and mechanical principles related to aircraft hydraulic systems, maintenance directives, schematic/wiring diagrams, and hazardous waste management.

Education: High school diploma with courses in basic electronics, mathematics, general science, and mechanics is desirable.

Training: Completion of a basic aircraft hydraulic systems apprentice course is mandatory for award of AFSC 2A635.

Experience:

  • 2A655: Requires experience in system component installation, operational checks, troubleshooting, and repairing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical/electronic systems.
  • 2A675: Advanced experience includes supervising maintenance functions of aircraft hydraulic systems.
